Normally, such issue is a network configuration issue. You need to contact your network admin ( provider) in order to solve such issue. You can provide result of the following commands to them "ping servername" and "ping -a serveripaddress".

Need your suggestion /Advise

Hi guys,

I would like to be advised from experts on one career related question.

I have 5 + years of Experience as a DEV and Test.

I had mostly worked on VB6, .NET 1.1[ asp.net ,C#] for 3 years as DEV and since 2 years i am into Software System testing [ its more related to Functionality Testing of applications built using .NET [ asp.net/c#, Sql server 2005 ].

I would like to switch the career to Core Development again and would like to seek experts's adivice..

Iam interested in learning SQL Server 2005 advanced features[ BI]:

Could you pls suggest me one area in SQL server 2005 from below[ parameters:I should be able to learn it quickly on my own, great demand in the market , great scope for development in near fure etc.,] :

1) SSIS

2) Analysis Services

3) Reporting Services etc.,

or any other suggestions are welcome..I appreciate your time responding to this thread.

thanks!

Business Intelligence (BI) is a great career path as there is a great demand for good BI specialists and the future is only going to get better. Unfortunately it is not very easy to learn on your own, but you can gain good experience after learning some of the basics.

As far as choosing between SSIS, Analysis Services and Reporting Services you can't. You need to know them all. Analysis Services is a BI environment and you need to know this environment well. SSIS is used for loading your DW in Analysis Services and you need to know this well too. Reporting Services is used for reporting on your DW in Analysis and (yip, you guessed it) you need to know this well too.

Before learning Microsoft's great BI tools, you need to learn about BI. There are a number of good white papers out there, just Google it.

Good Luck
